The Boston College baseball team released the 2015 schedule on Tuesday. The 55-game slate features 10 teams that were in the 2014 NCAA Tournament and 23 home games, including the final six of the regular season.
The 10 matchups featuring teams from last year’s postseason are the most since 2012 when the Eagles faced 11 opponents from the 2011 NCAA Tournament. For the first in program history, BC will face Louisville, who joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014 and made last year’s College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
The Eagles open the season at South Carolina Upstate, taking on Wofford, Xavier and host Spartans in a four-game, three-day round robin beginning on Feb. 13. BC will play a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 14.
BC follows up the first weekend with a three-game series at LSU, who begins the 2015 season ranked fourth in Collegiate Baseball’s Preseason Poll. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two squads.
After a return to the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla., where the Eagles will battle Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota State, Kansas and Villanova, BC will play the Red Sox for the 25th time in Fort Myers, Fla. The annual exhibition game will take place on Tuesday, March 3 at JetBlue Park. Northeastern will play seven innings beginning at 1:05 p.m. and the Eagles’ game will start 40 minutes after the conclusion. Last year, BC played the pro team close, falling, 5-2.
Boston College opens the ACC schedule at Florida State on March 6. The Seminoles, who are ranked 11th in the preseason poll, had an early unexpected exit from the 2014 NCAA Tournament while hosting the Regional round. BC then travels to Louisville for a three-game set with the Cardinals, beginning March 13.
Before opening the home slate, the Eagles travel across the state to Worcester, Mass., for a bout with Holy Cross on March 17. BC hosts 2014 NEC Champions Bryant to open Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Commander Shea Field on Wednesday, March 18. ACC opponent NC State – whom the Eagles took two-of-three in last year’s meeting – heads into town that weekend, followed by Duke on March 27-29.
The annual Beanpot Tournament will begin on April 8 as the Eagles host Northeastern. BC lost a first-round game to Harvard last year, 6-5, in Cambridge and came in fourth place for the first time in program history with a 4-3 loss to Northeastern in the consolation game. The championship will be played at Fenway Park on April 22. The Eagles are 31-16-1 in the local tournament and have won 10 titles, the last in 2011.
Including the tilt with the Huskies, the Eagles host a nine-game home stand that includes three-game series with Clemson (April 10-12) and Georgia Tech (April 17-19) and weekday games against Rhode Island (April 14) and Harvard (April 15).
The Eagles will host the Third Annual Wounded Warrior Project Game against the Tigers on Saturday, April 11 at 1:30 p.m. and will host the Fourth Annual ALS Awareness Game against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m.
Boston College travels to Chapel Hill April 24-26 to face the Tar Heels, who were 2014 NCAA Regional participants. After an away game at Rhode Island on April 28, the Eagles head to Blacksburg, Va., to face Virginia Tech (May 1-3).
BC ends the regular season in the friendly confides of Pellagrini Diamond with a two-game set against Hartford (May 9-10), a regional matchup against Maine (May 12) and the season finale against Notre Dame (May 14-16), The Fighting Irish, who is coached by former BC skipper Mik Aioki, took two of three in last year’s first ACC meeting in Chicago.
The 2015 ACC Baseball Tournament will begin on Tuesday, May 19 in Greensboro, N.C., at NewBridge Bank Park. The tournament will showcase the top 10 ACC teams and will feature two games the first day, followed by three games per day in a round-robin format from Wednesday through Saturday. The championship game between the two pool winners will be played on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles are looking to improve of a 22-33 record set last season, going 10-20 in the ACC. They added 10 more wins to their total from the 2013 season. BC returns seven positional starters, including first-team All-ACC outfielder Chris Shaw, and two weekend starters: John Gorman and Jeff Burke.
