TOWSON, Md. – Games against national runner-up Virginia, and NCAA Tournament participants Maryland and George Mason, along with a tough Colonial Athletic Association slate highlight the 2015 Towson baseball schedule released Tuesday.
“Overall, our schedule is going to be challenging,” said head coach Mike Gottlieb. “We have a very competitive non-conference schedule with the likes of USC, Virginia, George Mason, Maryland and Wake Forest. With Elon coming into the conference, I think our conference schedule has gotten tougher.”
The Tigers open the season on the road as they travel to face Southern California Feb. 13-15.
After the trip out west, Towson will play its home opener Feb. 25 against UMBC. The Tigers will play in the Wake Forest Tournament (Feb. 27-March 1) before embarking on an eight-game homestand March 6-15. Towson will face Bryant (March 6-8), Navy (March 10), Yale (March 13) and NJIT (March 14-15).
The Tigers will travel to face national runner-up Virginia March 17, before opening CAA play on the road at College of Charleston March 20-22.
Towson will host its second eight-game homestand March 27-April 5. The stretch includes CAA games against UNCW (March 27-29) and William & Mary (April 3-5), as well as non-conference games against UMES and Cornell.
The Tigers welcome CAA newcomer Elon to Schuerholz Park April 17-19. Northeastern will close out the home slate May 1-3. Towson will have road CAA series at Hofstra (April 10-12), James Madison (April 24-26) and Delaware (May 14-16).
The Tigers will face Maryland at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen May 6.
A year removed from a CAA Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, the Tigers finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 22-25 and 4-13 in CAA play.
