ALBANY, N.Y. — The University at Albany baseball team has announced its schedule for the 2015 season. The slate will feature 55 games, including 21 home contests, and two early tournament appearances in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Newark Del.
“This schedule allows our team to challenge themselves early with some of the premier programs in the nation,” said Head Coach Jon Mueller. “It will also help us to prepare for the very competitive America East Conference.”
The Great Danes open the season at Caravelle Resort’s Baseball at the Beach Tournament Feb. 20-22 where they will take on ACC perennial powers NC State and the reining ACC champion Georgia Tech, as well as Florida International of Conference USA, and the Big South’s Coastal Carolina. The four games will be played at Pelicans Ballpark, the Chanticleers’ home diamond.
The Great Danes will then compete in the Bob Hannah Invitational, hosted by the University of Delaware. UAlbany will play two games each against the hosting Blue Hens and Delaware State Feb. 27-March 1. Delaware State won the MEAC North championship in 2014.
Still on the road, UAlbany will take on in-state foes Hofstra in a four-game series March 7-8 and NYIT for two on March 10 before traveling to the Windy City for three games against Chicago State March 13-15.
Weather permitting, the Great Danes will host Marist for a doubleheader for the team’s home-opener on St. Patrick’s Day.
Entering America East play and an 11-game road stretch, UAlbany opens the conference slate March 21-22 at UMass Lowell. The Danes will play a midweek doubleheader against Cornell before taking the trek to Maine for three more conference clashes.
Starting a four-game home stand against Fordham on March 31, the Danes will then host three conference contests versus Hartford April 4-5.
The Great Danes will then step out of America East play for seven games, wrapping up the home-and-home series at Marist on April 7 before returning to Varsity Field for a pair of doubleheaders against NJIT April 11-12 and a midweek meeting with St. John’s April 14.
Entering the heart of the conference season, UAlbany travels to Binghamton April 18-19 to take on the reining America East Conference champions.
The Danes then host Empire State rival Stony Brook for three (April 25-26), Central Connecticut State for one (April 28), and UMass Lowell again for a three-game series on May 2-3, marking the program’s longest home stand of the season.
In the final month of the regular season, UAlbany will travel to take on Big East foe St. John’s for the second time in a three-week span, and then will head to Baltimore to face conference foe UMBC May 9-10.
The Great Danes close out the 2015 schedule with three home games versus Maine May 15-16.
The America East Championship Tournament will take place May 21-23 in Lowell, Mass. for the third straight season. There, the top four teams in the conference will contend for the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.
