WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sixth-year head coach Tom Walter has announced the 2015 spring schedule for the Wake Forest baseball team.
Wake Forest will again play a challenging schedule with six opponents that played in the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Deacons open the season at home with four-straight home games with the home opener on Feb. 13 against Delaware. Wake Forest will host 2014 NCAA Tournament participant Bucknell that weekend on Feb. 15 at 1:30 p.m. before facing VCU later that afternoon.
Wake Forest will then head to UNC Wilmington to play George Mason, Western Carolina and UNCW before heading home for another tournament against Towson and Marshall.
“When putting the schedule together you attempt to have the perfect balance between good RPI games and keeping your guys in the classroom as much as possible,” said Walter. “With a road tournament early in the schedule, our traditional home-and-home series with in-state teams and conference weekends at Florida State, Clemson, Louisville, Duke and Pitt we have achieved our goal. This schedule sets us up to be successful in the classroom and on the field.”
In addition to the weekend tournaments, Wake Forest will also face off against several familiar non-conference foes during the midweek. The Deacons will play home-and-home series against Appalachian State, UNCG, Elon, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Davidson and High Point. Wake Forest also hosts Connecticut on March 17.
Wake Forest’s conference schedule is loaded with perennial powers as always, as the Demon Deacons will host Virginia Tech, Miami, Boston College, Notre Dame and NC State. The Deacs will also travel to Florida State, Clemson, Pitt and Louisville before finishing the regular season at Duke.
Wake Forest finished the 2014 season with a 30-26 record and played Georgia Tech in the play-in game of the ACC Championship. The Deacons won ACC series over Georgia Tech, Boston College, Notre Dame, Maryland and Virginia. Georgia Tech, Maryland and Virginia all made the NCAA Tournament with Virginia making it to the finals of the College World Series.
