Fifty-seven games, including 29 at Matador Field, highlight the 2015 scheduled released by CSUN baseball head coach Greg Moore and his staff Tuesday. The Matadors will play traditionally strong opponents in UCLA, Pepperdine and Washington in addition to an always-challenging Big West Conference slate.
“The schedule reflects the day-in, day-out test that this team wants,” said CSUN head coach Greg Moore. “With 21 games against opponents who played in the postseason last year, the competition will sharpen us and provide great baseball for Matador Baseball fans and families.”
The Matadors’ quest to earn their first Big West title since 2002 begins on Friday, Feb. 13 against Utah Valley University. The next day CSUN welcomes Gonzaga into the fray as the Matadors will play a split doubleheader against the Wolverines and Bulldogs.
Following a final game against Gonzaga on February 15th and a home clash against UCLA on February 17th, the Matadors will take their first trip to the Emerald City and play a four-game series over three days against Seattle University. CSUN then returns to the San Fernando Valley for a single game against Grand Canyon University (2/24) before hitting the road again for four contests at Saint Mary’s (CA) and a midweek battle at UCLA.
Additional non-conference opponents include Bakersfield (3/10 away, 3/24 home) and both George Washington (3/13-15) and Dartmouth (3/19-21) at Matador Field. A final road non-conference series at the University of Washington is set for May 15th through 17th.
The Matadors will enjoy a season-long home stand of 12 games that encompasses middle to late March as the team eases into Big West action. A grueling 12-game road trip is also on the schedule and takes CSUN to San Diego State, Cal Poly, Fresno State, UC Davis, Pepperdine and Washington.
CSUN opens up the Big West schedule at home in 2015, hosting the Cal State Fullerton Titans from March 27th through 29th. The Matadors will also play host to conference rivals UC Santa Barbara (4/10-12), UC Riverside (4/24-26) and UC Irvine (5/21-23).
Road series in conference play include games at Long Beach State (4/2-4), Hawai’i (4/17-19), Cal Poly (5/1-3) and UC Davis (5/8-10).
“Our schedule matches us with some of the best programs in the country,” said Moore. “I expect we will continue to thrive when challenged.”
