Seattle University head baseball coach Donny Harrel and his staff have completed the 2015 competition schedule for the Redhawk baseball program, which includes a record 33 home games at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue as well as a special road trip across the country.
The Redhawks open the 2015 season with a four-game series against Saint Mary’s Feb. 13-15, followed by the first of four mid-week games throughout the season against the Portland Pilots Feb. 17, with each team hosting two games. Seattle U returns home to face Cal State Northridge in a four-game series at Bannerwood Park Feb. 20-22.
Seattle U heads to Cary, N.C., for the USA Baseball-Irish Classic Feb. 27-March 1 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, facing Richmond, Notre Dame, and Cincinnati. The Redhawks return home to face Portland March 3 before a three-game home series against UC Davis March 6-8.
Washington, the first of three 2014 NCAA Tournament teams on Seattle U’s schedule, hosts the Redhawks at Husky Ballpark March 10, and then the Redhawks welcome Big Ten school Northwestern to the Pacific Northwest for a four-game series March 12-14. Seattle U remains home for the start of the conference season, hosting Utah Valley March 20-22.
The Redhawks hit the road for a three-game conference series at Texas-Pan American March 27-29, followed by a mid-week game in Hillsboro, Ore., against the Oregon Ducks April 1. That will be the first of four straight games against NCAA Tournament participants, as Seattle U hosts defending WAC Tournament champion Sacramento State April 2-4.
Seattle U continues the stretch of home games with a single game against Portland April 8 and a three-game WAC series against New Mexico State April 10-12. After making the short trip to Husky Ballpark to face Washington April 14, the Redhawks hosts North Dakota at Bannerwood Park April 17-19 and the Washington Huskies for the third and final meeting of the season between the crosstown rivals April 21.
Seattle U embarks on its longest stretch of road games of the season, facing Bakersfield in a three-game series April 24-26, Grand Canyon in a three-game WAC series in Phoenix, Ariz., May 1-3, and the final game of the season against Portland at Joe Etzel Field May 6. The Redhawks conclude their home schedule with a three-game series against Chicago State May 8-10 and a single game against the Pacific Tigers at Bellevue College Monday, May 11.
The Redhawks conclude the regular season with a three-game series at Northern Colorado May 14-16. The top six eligible teams in the Western Athletic Conference will play for the WAC Tournament title at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz., May 20-24.
“Thanks to the City of Bellevue and our SU administration, as well as our donors and alumni, our new turf project at Bannerwood Park will allow us to play many home games this season. We once again have put together a very tough schedule, highlighted by the Notre Dame tourney in Cary, N.C., where our USA National Baseball team plays. With Pac 12 schools, Big Ten opponent Northwestern, and our games against the Big West Conference, this schedule may rank close to one of our toughest since bringing baseball back,” Harrel said.
The Seattle University baseball team is coming off a 26-win season in 2014, including a 13-11 record within the Western Athletic Conference that qualified the squad for last year’s WAC Baseball Tournament.
