WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball announced its 2015 schedule on Thursday, featuring 52 overall games and 29 at home. The Bears will face 13 2014 NCAA Tournament participants and its 23 opponents combined for an 837-541-1 (.607) record last season.
The highly-competitive 2015 slate also features eight teams that won their conference regular season championship or postseason tournament, five teams that played in an NCAA Super Regional, three teams that played in the College World Series, and only three teams that finished with a record below .500 in 2014 (Hawaii, Incarnate Word, Kansas State).
BU begins the 2015 campaign with a season-long, nine-game home stand. The stretch begins with a three-game series vs. Cal Poly (conference champion, NCAA Tournament) that starts on Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The stand then includes games against Dallas Baptist (conference champion, NCAA Tournament) on Feb. 17, Kent State (conference champion, NCAA Tournament) on Feb. 20-22 and Northwestern State on Feb. 24-25.
After the home stand, the Bears play 11 of their next 12 games outside of Waco. The span begins with a three-game series at Cal State Fullerton (NCAA Tournament) on Feb. 27-March 1. Following a home game vs. Sam Houston State (conference champion, NCAA Tournament) on March 4, BU heads to the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park. The event has the Bears playing Hawaii on March 6, LSU (conference champion, NCAA Tournament) on March 7 and Texas A&M (NCAA Tournament) on March 8. The span ends with a road tilt at Dallas Baptist on March 10, the Big 12 opening series at TCU (conference champion, College World Series) on March 13-15 and midweek matchup at Sam Houston State on March 17.
The Big 12 home opening series on March 20-22 vs. West Virginia kicks off a stretch of having 11 of 13 games at Baylor Ballpark. After a game at UT Arlington on March 24, the Bears host Oklahoma on March 27-29 and Houston (conference champion, NCAA Super Regional) on March 31. Then comes a split three-game series with Texas State on April 2-4 as the teams will play the first game in San Marcos before finishing the series in Waco. The home stretch ends on April 7 vs. UT Arlington.
To finish the regular season, BU plays at Texas Tech (College World Series) on April 10-12 and hosts Incarnate Word on April 14. Following a three-game series at Oklahoma State (conference champion, NCAA Super Regional) on April 17-19, the Bears host Lamar on April 21 and Kansas State on April 24-26. After playing at UTSA on April 28 and at Kansas (NCAA Tournament) on May 1-3, BU wraps the regular season by hosting UTSA on May 12 and Texas (College World Series) on May 16 and May 17 (doubleheader).
The Big 12 Championship will be held in Tulsa, Okla., at ONEOK Field from May 20-24. NCAA Regionals will then be held on May 29-31, Super Regionals on June 5-7 and the College World Series on June 13-24 in Omaha, Neb.
The Bears have already completed fall camp and return 27 players from last year’s squad.
