PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 17, 2014) – Under the direction of head coach Joe Litterio, the Rutgers baseball program announced its 2015 schedule Friday. The slate includes 56 games overall with 24 contests against Big Ten competition.
The Scarlet Knights will host home games at Bainton Field once again, entering the season with a 13-game home winning streak, the second-longest active mark in the nation.
“As we always do, I try to schedule tough nonconference opponents to start the season,” Litterio said. “I am very happy with the way it turned out. I believe the quality road competition will prepare us for the conference schedule.”
Playing its inaugural season in the Big Ten, RU will play its first series as a member of the league at Purdue. Other road conference series include at Indiana, Penn State and Illinois. The four home league series will be against Ohio State, Minnesota, Michigan State and Iowa.
“We are very excited to be a member of the Big Ten,” Litterio said. “This is a very competitive league and I look forward to the competition.”
For the seventh consecutive season, the Scarlet Knights will open the year in South Florida, taking on Miami for the sixth time in the span. The four-game series will include a doubleheader Saturday. The following weekend, RU will play another four-game set at Tennessee.
Another nonconference highlight is a three-game series against rival Seton Hall during the conference bye weekend. The location of this matchup is still to be determined.
The Big Ten Tournament will be held at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minn., home of the Minnesota Twins, from May 20-25. The event features a double-elimination format with eight teams.
