JohnAndersonMinnesotaThe University of Minnesota baseball team has announced its 2015 schedule. The Golden Gophers are slated to play 53 games this upcoming spring, including 21 at Siebert Field. They will hope to add to that total of ballgames with a run in the Big Ten Tournament at Target Field.

DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS
Minnesota will play its first seven games in the state of Texas. A series at Houston (Feb. 13-15) will start the season. Two of college baseball’s winningest coaches will square off when John Anderson’s Gophers visit Augie Garrido’s Texas Longhorns the next weekend (Feb. 20-22).

MINNESOTA VS. MINNESOTA
The Gophers will play an exhibition game at the Minnesota Twins’ spring training complex. Minnesota is scheduled to face its state’s Major League Team on March 4 in Fort Myers, Fla.

SPRING BREAK
The Gophers will play in VCU’s PK5 Classic during the University of Minnesota’s spring break. The tournament runs April 13-15, and includes host VCU, James Madison and Monmouth. Minnesota will remain in Virginia for a two-game series against Richmond (April 17-18) before beginning conference play.

NEW FACES, NEW PLACES
The Big Ten expanded to 13 baseball programs with the addition of Maryland and Rutgers. Minnesota will visit both new conference foes on the road during the 2015 season. The Gophers begin Big Ten play at Maryland (March 20-22). They travel to Rutgers for a series April 3-5. Minnesota’s other two conference road series are at Nebraska (April 10-12) and Iowa (May 8-10).

SIEBERT SERIES
After its homeowner against Augsburg (March 24), Minnesota will welcome Northwestern to Siebert Field (March 27-29). The Gophers will also host Penn State (April 17-19), Michigan (April 24-26) and Michigan State (April 14-16) during the Big Ten season. Additional series against Kansas State (April 28-29) and UC-Irvine (May 1-3) will help fill out the schedule.

CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RETURNS TO TARGET FIELD
The second edition of the Big Ten’s eight-team tournament will take place at Target Field (May 20-23). The conference tournament was at Target Field in 2013, and at TD Ameritrade Park (Omaha, Neb.) in 2014.
