HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss baseball player Michael Gilbert was released from the University Medical Center Monday afternoon. The following is a statement from Gilbert’s parents, Bill and Melissa, Monday evening:
After being released to a regular room last night and steady improvement throughout the day, Michael was released from University Medical Center this afternoon and is resting comfortably at home. Although he still has a long way to go, our family sincerely appreciates all that has been done for Michael during this difficult time.
Without the prayers and encouragement he has received daily, he would not be where he is today.
Please continue to lift up Michael in your prayers for a complete recovery. We will continue to let you know how he is doing.
In Him,
Bill and Melissa Gilbert

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Below is a statement regarding Southern Miss baseball player Michael Gilbert from his parents, Bill and Melissa Gilbert:
My wife and I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the USM family. The prayers, visits, cards and calls have been such a blessing. We are humbled by the tremendous outpouring of love that has been expressed to Michael and our family.
Michael was moved out of the Neuroscience Critical Care Unit to a regular room on Sunday, and continues to show slow steady improvement. Without the prayers, love and personal contact shown by family and friends, this would not have been possible.
Thanks again, and we will continue to let you know how Michael is doing.
