STILLWATER, Okla. — Nine NCAA Tournament teams from last season highlight Oklahoma State’s 2015 baseball schedule, which was released today and includes 32 home games for the Cowboys at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The Cowboys, the reigning Big 12 Conference champions, will host four league series on their home field, while their non-conference foes include the likes of Arizona State, Oregon State, Washington, UNLV, Wichita State, Dallas Baptist and Michigan.
“This is without question the most challenging schedule our program has taken on in many years, and we look forward to challenges of playing top-notch teams,” said third-year OSU head coach Josh Holliday, who led the Cowboys to a 48-18 record and an NCAA Super Regional in 2014. “We look forward to traveling to great places across the country and to hosting outstanding teams that our fans will enjoy watching. Add to that the new location of the Big 12 tournament in Tulsa, and our fans will have a chance to enjoy baseball deep into the season.”
OSU opens the 2015 season with a weekend series at Arizona State, where the Cowboys and Sun Devils will square off on ASU’s new home field at Phoenix Municipal Stadium on Feb. 13-15.
The Cowboys will remain in Arizona the following week to take part in the Big 12/Pac-12 Challenge. OSU opens the tourney against Oregon State on Feb. 19 in Surprise before a showdown with Washington State on the 20th. The next two games see Holliday’s club take on Utah in Mesa on Feb. 21 before closing out play against Washington in Peoria on Feb. 22.
Following the trip to Arizona, the Cowboys will return to Stillwater for a 15-game home stand that will carry them into Big 12 Conference play. OSU’s home opener is against Missouri State on Feb. 25, and the Pokes will also have games or series against Western Illinois, UNLV, Illinois, Alcorn State, Grand Canyon and Central Arkansas during the long home stand.
“We open on the road against an outstanding Arizona State team and follow that up with an additional four games against the Pac-12 in the Big 12/Pac-12 Challenge — we will face four potential first-round picks on the mound on that trip alone,” Holliday said. “We will test ourselves immediately, and that will be good for our club. Our other non-conference weekends will provide us tremendous challenges as we host a very strong Illinois team and travel late in the year to play an up-and-coming Michigan squad. Add to that outstanding midweek contests against the best teams in the Midwest and you have one heck of a schedule.”
The Cowboys will open Big 12 play on the road in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 20 when they take on TCU, the team OSU edged for the conference’s regular-season championship last season.
In Big 12 Conference action, OSU will play host to Kansas State, Texas, Baylor and West Virginia, while having road series at Kansas and Texas Tech. The Bedlam Series against Oklahoma will open May 1 in Tulsa before shifting to Oklahoma City for the final two games on May 2-3.
“The Big 12 proved to be an elite conference last year with three teams advancing to Omaha so it’s to say our team will be grinding from start to finish,” Holliday said.
The 2015 Big 12 Baseball Championship will be held at Tulsa’s ONEOK Field May 20-24, while NCAA Regionals get underway on May 29. The College World Series begins play on June 13 in Omaha, Neb.
