WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW baseball team will play 35 home games and 17 contests against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last spring when the new season kicks off in February of 2015.
The Seahawks open the campaign by facing Ball State in the Buffalo Wild Wings Battle at the Beach on Feb. 13. Maine and Kentucky, which kicks off its season in Wilmington for the second consecutive year, are also playing in the four-team, round robin event.
UNCW will also stage the annual Hughes Bros. Challenge on Feb. 20-22. Former Colonial Athletic Association rival George Mason, Wake Forest and Western Carolina will join the Seahawks in the tournament.
In late February, Scalf and his team head to Tallahassee, Fla., for a three-game series against Florida State on Feb. 27-Mar. 1. It will be the Seahawks’ first series against the Seminoles since 1974.
UNCW returns to Brooks Field the following weekend when it hosts super regional participant Maryland for three games on Mar. 6-8.
Overall, UNCW has eight games against ACC members in 2015. In addition to Florida State and Wake Forest, the Seahawks will also play home-and-home series with UNC Chapel Hill and NC State.
Other non-conference opponents include East Carolina, North Carolina Central and Campbell – all home-and-home series – and home games with UNCG, Coastal Carolina, Columbia (NCAA), George Mason (NCAA), Western Carolina, Maine, Toledo and Kentucky (NCAA). UNCW will also host UNCA in a three-game series over Easter weekend.
In CAA play, UNCW visits Towson, Hofstra, Charleston and newcomer Elon, while hosting series against Delaware, Northeastern, William & Mary and James Madison. The CAA Tournament is scheduled for May 20-23 in Charleston, S.C.
The newly-launched Seahawk Digital Network is scheduled to broadcast all 35 home games. A complete broadcast schedule will be announced at a later date.
