OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University baseball head coach Danny Hayden has announced the schedule for the 2015 season, his second at the helm. The schedule features 21 games at McKie Field at Hayden Park where the team compiled a 12-9 record in route to a Mid-American Conference East Division title last season.
The Red and White will plays its first 18 games on the road starting with a tournament in Starkville, Miss. on Feb. 13-15, the opponents in the four-game tournament hosted by Mississippi State are still to be determined. The following weekend the team will take part in another tournament against USC Upstate, Pitt and host Wofford in Spartanburg, S.C. The tough slate continues the next two weekends in three-game series against two 2014 NCAA Tournament qualifiers beginning with defending Big South Champion Campbell (Feb. 27-March 1) before a trip to face South Carolina (March 6-8). The final non-conference weekend series comes at East Tennessee State on March 13-15.
Miami’s home-opener will come against Xavier on March 18, a day after traveling to play the Musketeers. The rest of the non-conference schedule contains three more home-and-homes with Marshall (home on April 1, away on April 7), Wright State (home on April 8, away on April 22) and Eastern Kentucky (away on April 28, home on April 29).
The RedHawks will travel to Dayton on March 3 and Louisville on March 31 for single-game road trips. The non-conference schedule wraps up on May 5 when Ohio State visits Hayden Park. Six of Miami’s opponents qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season as Campbell, Xavier and Kent State won their conference tournaments and Louisville, South Carolina and Mississippi State earned at-large bids.
The Red and White will begin their defense of the MAC East title on March 20-22 with a trip north to Western Michigan before hosting Central Michigan on March 27-29. The RedHawks continue to alternate home and road weekends at Bowling Green (April 3-5), home against Buffalo (April 10-12), at Akron (April 17-19) and home against the defending MAC Tournament Champion Kent State (April 24-26).
The team stays in Oxford the for a second straight weekend to host Eastern Michigan (May 1-3) before traveling to northwest Ohio to play Toledo on May 8-10. The conference season wraps up against rival Ohio on May 14-16.
The MAC Tournament will be held May 20-24 in Avon Lake, Ohio.
