STATESBORO, Ga. – Thirty-one home games, six NCAA Regional Participants highlight the Georgia Southern Eagles 56-game 2015 baseball schedule.
Georgia Southern will renew old rivalries and embark on their inaugural Sun Belt season in 2015. The Eagles will face Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech and West Virginia in addition to familiar foes The Citadel, College of Charleston, Kennesaw St. and Appalachian St.
The Eagles will also play a full Sun Belt schedule including Georgia St., Louisiana Lafayette, South Alabama, Troy and Texas St. The conference slate begins on March 6 in Statesboro, Ga. when the Eagles host Appalachian St. Also coming to J.I. Clements Stadium this season are Arkansas St., UT Arlington, ULM and South Alabama.
“2015 will mark a new chapter in our baseball history as we enter into the SunBelt Conference,” Head Coach Rodney Hennon said. “The SunBelt is an outstanding league and our team is excited about the opportunity to compete this spring. Once again, we will play a very challenging non conference slate that should prepare us well for conference play.”
The schedule opens on Feb. 13 against 2014 NCAA Regional Participant Bethune-Cookman and 15 of the first 16 games take place at home. The Eagles will also face five other NCAA Regional teams from a year ago.
GSU will welcome in Georgia Tech for the first mid-week game on Feb. 17 before hosting West Virginia in a three-game weekend set on Feb. 20-22. The Eagles will host The Citadel on Feb. 24 before Georgia returns to Statesboro on Feb. 27-March 1. The final home conference series against South Alabama will be held on May 1-3 and the final home game of the season will be against Kennesaw State, who advanced to a super regional in 2014.
GSU will travel to defending Sun Belt champion Louisiana Lafayette on April 4-5. The Eagles will also visit the Atlanta area on March 10 at Georgia Tech, March 24 at Kennesaw St. and May 14-16 at Georgia St. GSU will play in Jacksonville on Feb. 25 at North Florida and again on April 28 at Jacksonville.
The 2015 Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be held in Troy, Ala. on May 20-24. The Sun Belt takes the top eight teams with the best winning percentage and utilizes a double-elimination format to determine the Sun Belt Conference champion and recipient of the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
