ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington baseball announced the 2015 schedule on Thursday afternoon. The 56-game slate features a 26-game nonconference schedule and 30 games in the Sun Belt Conference. The nonconference portion of the Mavericks schedule is highlighted by ten games against schools from Power Five conferences.
“It’s a challenging schedule. It always is,” said UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas. “The big game is against Texas on St. Patrick’s Day at Globe Life Park, and we are looking forward to another chance to play at a big league park.”
After opening the season on Feb. 13-15 in a tournament hosted by Stephen F. Austin, the Mavericks will travel to Fort Worth to take on TCU. The Horned Frogs are coming off of a 48-18 season which ended with a Big 12 title and an appearance in the College World Series. UTA and TCU will square off three times during the 2015 season, with two of those games taking place at Clay Gould Ballpark.
The Mavericks will also host a home game against Texas at Globe Life Park in Arlington on March 17. The Longhorns are coming off of a 46-21 season which saw them make their way to the College World Series. The meeting will mark the first time the two schools have played in Arlington.
UTA opens up Sun Belt Conference play on March 6 when it travels to Jonesboro, Ark. to take part in a three-game series with Arkansas State. The conference home opener comes on March 13 when the Mavericks play South Alabama in a three-game series. Sun Belt play will wrap up for UTA on May 15-17 at Texas State, with the conference tournament scheduled from May 19-23 in Troy, Alabama.
The Mavericks are coming off a 33-26 season that ended in the Sun Belt Conference title game. UTA had a record number of players taken in the 2014 MLB Draft as six Mavs were selected, raising UTA’s all-time draft total to 48 players.
“We lost some good kids from last year’s team, but I feel really good about our freshman class,” added Thomas. “It’s probably the best freshman class we’ve had since I’ve been here.”
