YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team released its schedule for the 2015 campaign, Sept. 10. The Eagles will play a 53-game schedule that includes 18 contests at Oestrike Stadium. Eastern will also open up the regular season with three-game series at Arizona, Feb. 13-15, starting off a new era of EMU baseball under first year Head Coach Mark Van Ameyde.
While winter is still in full force throughout Ypsilanti, the Eagles begin the 2014 campaign with 15-straight road contests in historically warmer climates. After kicking off the season against the Wildcats, Eastern heads to the Golden State for 10 games against three California-based foes: St. Mary’s, UC Davis and Santa Clara. Wrapping up the road trip, EMU faces Georgia State for a weekend series, March 6-8.
Even with the potential of snow and ice covering the Oestrike Stadium turf, EMU is scheduled to host Cleary on Wednesday, March 11, for the first home game of the season. Following the home opener, the Eagles will head to Northern Kentucky, March 13-15, for their final non-conference weekend series before beginning Mid-American Conference play at home against the Zips of Akron, March 20-22.
During the conference season, EMU will have non-conference contests in the middle of the week. The matchups include a game at Notre Dame (March 31), two games against Washtenaw County rival Michigan in Ann Arbor (April 15, May 12) and a home-and-home series with Michigan State, Coach Van Ameyde’s old stomping grounds. Former EMU Head Baseball Coach Jake Boss Jr. brings his Spartans to Oestrike Stadium, April 1, before Coach Van Ameyde returns to East Lansing on Wednesday, April 29.
On the MAC slate, Eastern will face every team in conference play besides Bowling Green and Buffalo. However, the Eagles and Falcons have scheduled a home-and-home series that will count as non-conference games. The Green and White welcome the Orange and Brown to Ypsilanti on Wednesday, April 8, while the contest at Bowling Green is just six days later, April 14. Along with hosting Akron to kick off the MAC season, EMU will battle Western Michigan, Ball State, Ohio and Toledo in weekend series at Oestrike Stadium. Hitting the conference road, the Eagles will flock to Kent State, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Miami for three-game sets.
Eastern Michigan will conclude the 2015 regular season at home against the Toledo Rockets, May 14-16. The following week, May 20-24, the Eagles hope to be heading to Avon, Ohio as one of the eight teams in the conference that qualified for the MAC Tournament. If Coach Van Ameyde and the Eagles capture the MAC Tournament title, they will advance to the NCAA Regional, May 29-June 1. As always, the dream destination is Omaha, Neb. for the College World Series, set to take place June 13-23 at TD Ameritrade Park.
