OMAHA, Neb. — Ole Miss (48-20) brought out the bats, knocking 11 hits to keep its season alive with a 6-4 victory over TCU (48-18) Thursday night at TD Ameritrade Park.
The Rebels bullpen allowed one hit in 5.2 innings after starter Sam Smith struggled, but it was the veteran boppers in the middle of the Ole Miss lineup that were the difference.
Senior catcher Will Allen, who had to DH due to a bum shoulder, and junior first baseman Sikes Orvis powered the Rebels. The roommates combined for six hits and five RBI. Allen finished 3-for-5 with a two-run double and the game-winning RBI single in the seventh inning to put Ole Miss ahead for good.
After the game, Allen talked about the Ole Miss offense coming alive and how they got wide-eyed when getting to the ballpark and seeing the wind blowing out today.
Will Allen also discussed the job of the Rebels bullpen and the differences of being the designated hitter rather than being behind the dish. He also talked about his relationship with Sikes Orvis and how the team is staying loose despite facing elimination four times in two weeks.
And Allen was all over Ole Miss’ preseason rankings in the SEC West and how the Rebels are proving the critics wrong.
