UNC Asheville will name Scott Friedholm as their next head coach. He had served the past four seasons as an assistant coach at Boston College. Before joining the Boston College staff, he spent time at Navy and Maine under Paul Kostacopoulos after an outstanding career at Providence College where he was an All-Big East squad member.

What a good choice. He will do well if they find a way to support baseball. The last coach was an idiot who thought being at a mediocre high school gave him the experience to be a college coach. My son is a rising sophomore and from what we have heard this is a good hire. Thank god we finally have a coach and not a cheerleader.

I have supported UNCA Athletics for years and it is time to get rid of the AD too. She hired a baseball coach that had no college experience and was the laughing stock of the Big South. My sons top choice was to play at UNCA because he grew up going to their games but Smith didn’t offer him a scholarship so he went to ASU and started for three years before getting drafted. That shows you how much Tom Smith knew about baseball. His own assistants said he was lazy, out of touch with college baseball. He made several comments that he didn’t have the energy to be a college coach.
