2014 Nashville Regional: Day 3 Recap

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Trailing by five runs entering the eighth inning, the No. 2-seeded Oregon Ducks stormed back for a 11-8 win in 10 innings over No. 4-seeded Xavier in an elimination game of the Nashville Regional on Sunday.

The eventful contest featured four homers, six multi-run rallies, a brief rain delay and 24 hits.

Oregon (44-19) will face top-seeded Vanderbilt at 5 p.m. PT on Sunday. Oregon will need to beat the Commodores twice — with the if-necessary game scheduled for Monday night at 4 p.m. — in order to advance to the Super Regionals.

Vanderbilt 3 Oregon 2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ro Coleman hit a walk-off single to score Zander Wiel as Vanderbilt defeated Oregon, 3-2, to advance to the Super Regionals Sunday at Hawkins Field.

Vanderbilt loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth. After Norwood struck out, Coleman came up as a pinch hitter and slashed a single between the shortstop and third base.

Vanderbilt improved to 44-18, while Oregon’s season ends with a 44-20 record.

Vanderbilt will face the winner of the Indiana-Stanford game, which will be played Monday. It will be Vanderbilt’s second trip to the Super Regionals in a row and third in four years.
