Binghamton’s Ostner tosses gem to advance Bearcats

Binghamton’s Greg Ostner pitched a complete game shutout to advance the Bearcats to the America East Championship Round where they will take on Stony Brook later this afternoon. Ostner scattered six hits allowing only one walk while striking out four batters. The Hawks could never get their offense together with many quick at-bats.

The Bearcats offense though came flying out of the gates scoring four runs before an out was recorded against Hartford’s Kyle Gauthier. They finished the inning with five runs knocking out Gauthier after only an inning of work.

Binghamton scrapped together another three runs in the fifth inning off of Hartford relieve Jeremy Charles who settled things down for the Hawks. He ended up going three innings giving up five hits while walking two batters.

But the real story of the day was Ostner who was only starting his second career game and came through in the clutch for his squad in the loser’s bracket. This victory sets up a championship round matchup between Binghamton and Stony Brook since 2008. With Ostner giving the Binghamton bullpen the game off, everyone is available for the nightcap.
