We continue the countdown today with number 42 with Tennessee sophomore shortstop AJ Simcox. The Knoxville, Tennessee native attended Farragut High School where he was a three time state champion from 2009-2011. As a high school senior, he hit .470 with two homers and 32 RBI while being named Knoxville News Sentinel PrepXtra Player of the Year among other awards. The Colorado Rockies selected him in the 32nd round but decided to go to his hometown school in Tennessee to play for head coach Dave Serrano.
As a freshman with the Vols, he appeared in 50 games starting 48 matchups. AJ ended up finishing the year with a .283 batting average with 26 RBI. He struggled on the defensive side of the game by committing 19 errors while having a fielding percentage of .923.
He played the summer of 2013 in the Alaska Baseball League with the Matsu Miners. Appearing in 38 games, he hit .353 which lead the league with a homer and 22 RBI.
