Coach Mike McRae has announced the 2014 schedule for the Canisius baseball program, which features 56 games against 24 opponents and ties a program-record with 21 contests at the Demske Sports Complex.
For the fifth consecutive season, Canisius will open the season at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C. This year’s four-game series will start against Albany on Feb. 14, and also include games against Saint Joseph’s, Butler and Michigan State. The Griffs will play non-conference series at Charlotte, East Tennessee State and Norfolk State before playing in the Flyer Classic against Miami University and Dayton on March 15-16.
After a pair of mid-week games at VMI during Spring Break, the Griffs return home to play eight games before the end of March. Canisius opens MAAC play against Saint Peter’s (March 22-23), hosts Buffalo and St. Bonaventure and then faces Manhattan (March 29-30).
A home-and-home pair of mid-week games against Akron is sandwiched around a road series at Fairfield. The Griffs then host Siena for three games before hosting a non-conference series against Indiana State, with the middle game of the series being played at Dwyer Stadium, home of the Batavia Muckdogs, on April 18.
Canisius will play three straight MAAC series away from home, taking on Marist (April 26-27), Quinnipiac (May 3-4) and Niagara (May 10-11). Mid-week games at the end of April will be played at Buffalo and St. Bonaventure with the Griffs hosting Youngstown State and Cornell. Canisius wraps up the regular-season against Monmouth on May 15-16, at the Demske Sports Complex.
Canisius will look to defend its MAAC Championship at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, N.J. on May 21-25, 2014. The 2014 MAAC Championship will feature a six-team, double-elimination tournament with the winner earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
