We continue the countdown today with number 46, UNC outfielder Skye Bolt. In his freshman campaign with the Tar heels, Bolt impressed the coaches with his switch-hitting ability and raw power from both sides of the plate. The 6’2 rookie show great athleticism in the field, equipped with a strong and accurate arm. Bolt played and started in 54 games during the 2013 season and posted a .321 average which was good for fourth on the squad. The freshman outfielder quickly adjusted to the high competition collecting 68 hits, 6 HR and 51 RBI in his first year.
The Woodstock, Ga native attended Holy Innocents where he was regarded as the No. 45 player in the country by Perfect Game and No. 11 among outfielders in the nation. In his senior year he was ranked the No. 6 player in the state of Georgia by Perfect Game. His performance on the field got him drafted in the 26th round in the 2012 MLB draft but decided to pursue an education at UNC which was just what the Tar Heels were hoping for.
During the 2013 summer, Bolt was selected to the USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team. The freshman was one of 24 players that had the opportunity to compete for their country. There is no question that Skye Bolt is ready to make the next step but only time will tell as this young talent takes the field for the Tar Hills in 2014.
