We continue the countdown today with number 48, Bryant RHP Kyle Wilcox. In his freshman campaign with the Bulldogs, Wilcox proved that he had what it took to perform at the Division 1 level. With a fastball that topped out at 97 mph during 2013, the right hander quickly became a player of interest within the NEC. Wilcox appeared in 15 games out of the bullpen for the Black and Gold, throwing in 13 innings while posting a 6.23 ERA. Despite starting off shaky in his first appearance, the freshman responded with countless scoreless innings holding opponents to a .269 average.
The Sandy Hook, CT native attended Newtown High School where he was a four-year varsity letter-winner in both baseball and basketball. As a senior, Wilcox led the team to a SWC Championship on his way to earning first team All-State honors. The powerful right hander also earned first team all-league and was selected to play in the senior All-Star game.
During the 2013 summer, Wilcox spent his time in the New England Collegiate Baseball League with the Newport Gulls. After an exciting freshman year, the rising sophomore proved to be too much to handle for most of the competition. Wilcox appeared in 16 games for the Gulls becoming their go to closer in the later innings. In 18.2 IP, the right hander pitched to a 1-0 record with 7 saves and 27 strikeouts. He also led the team in ERA with an impressive 0.48. His efforts on the mound got him selected to the NECBL All-Star game where he once again wowed the scouts with his electric arm
Wilcox returns to Bryant and the Bulldogs for his sophomore season and will be a top prospect to watch as the 2014 season rolls around.
