PeteWikGeorgetownWASHINGTON – Head Coach Pete Wilk and the Georgetown University baseball team have announced the schedule for the upcoming 2014 season. The Hoyas will play close to 50 games this spring, including 19 home games at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md.

The 2014 season features an updated BIG EAST conference, with four of last season’s top five teams – Louisville, Pittsburgh, South Florida and Rutgers – all gone with several programs – Xavier, Creighton and Butler – all joining the conference.

The non-conference portion of the schedule features matchups with opponents from nine different conferences, including four games with Towson of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). In 2013, the Tigers won the CAA Tournament as the sixth seed and went on to win a game in the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown will also match up twice with the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES), University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC), George Washington, Coppin State and George Mason.

After opening the season Feb. 14-16 with three games in Winston-Salem, N.C. – against Marshall, Wake Forest and Towson – the Hoyas’ home slate starts up the following weekend, Feb. 21-23 when Georgetown hosts Hartford in a three-game series. Play will start on Friday at 3 p.m. at Shirley Povich Field, with the contests on Saturday and Sunday scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

A midweek game at UMES, on Wednesday, Feb. 26, starts a five-game stretch of true road games for the Hoyas. They will then return to the state of North Carolina for a three-game series at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro the weekend of Feb. 28 – March 2. The trip wraps up with a game on Wednesday, March 5 at the Naval Academy.

Georgetown will make its annual spring break trip to Florida, playing games in Port Charlotte from March 7-16. The Hoyas’ opponents during the trip have yet to be determined.

Upon returning from Florida, Georgetown plays a pair of home midweek games. The Blue & Gray will host UMBC on Tuesday, March 18 and George Washington on Wednesday, March 19. That weekend, the Hoyas will play a home-and-home series with Towson with the first two games, on Friday and Saturday, taking place at Shirley Povich Field while Sunday’s finale will be played at Towson’s home field.

Single games at Coppin State (March 26) and George Washington (April 1) sandwich a three-game series in Louisiana against Grambling (March 28-30). The Hoyas will then return home to open BIG EAST play against new conference opponent Xavier. Georgetown and the Musketeers will play a three-game series at Shirley Povich Field, April 4-6.

The Hoyas step back out of non-conference play on Wednesday, April 9 with a quick trip to George Mason before traveling to Omaha for a three-game BIG EAST series at Creighton, April 11-13.

George Mason returns the trip, visiting Shirley Povich Field on Tuesday, April 15 before Seton Hall comes to town for a three-game series April 17-19.

Following the second matchup of the season with UMES (April 22), Georgetown heads goes back on the road, heading up I-95 to St. John’s for three games April 25-27.

The Blue & Gray close out their home schedule with a four game homestand. The Hoyas will host Coppin State on April 30 before playing a three-game series against Villanova May 2-4.

A trip to Indianapolis to play Butler, May 9-11, closes out BIG EAST play and a final matchup at UMBC on May 13 closes out the regular season.

The Hoyas are coming off of a 25-28 finish in 2013, their fourth consecutive season with at least 20 victories and the first time a Georgetown team has reached the 25-win mark since 2005.
