We continue the countdown today with number 57, Stetson catcher/first baseman Patrick Mazeika. In an impressive freshman campaign with the Hatters, Mazeika finished the season leading the team in seven offensive categories. The 6’3” lefty was almost impossible to get out at the plate as his team leading stats spoke for themselves. Mazeika led the Hatters in batting average (.382), hits (81), Homeruns (3), RBI (33), slugging percentage (.495) and on-base percentage (.488). The talented freshman tore up Atlantic Sun pitching, leading the league with a .439 average through conference play. Due to his notable play on the diamond, Mazeika earned multiple freshmen All-America and Atlantic Sun Honors including; Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger, A-Sun Conference freshman of the Year, A-Sun All-Conference 1st team and NCBWA Freshman All-America 1st team.
The Springfield, Mass native attended Salisbury High School where he was a four-time WNEPBL All-Star and team MVP. As a senior, Mazeika lead the Knights to a 33-0 record and helped guide them to the Western New England Prep Baseball League Championship. The two-time WNEPBL Player of the Year posted a .605 batting average with four homeruns and 47 RBI in 2012.
During the 2013 summer, Mazeika spent his time as a member of the Waynesboro Generals in the Valley League. The rising sophomore started at first base for the Generals in 24 games and posted a .382 average. In 76 at bats he compiled 29 hits and collected 18 RBI in the process. After joining Waynesboro midway through the season, Mazeika quickly became one of the top hitters in the Generals lineup. His efforts landed him #14 on the list of Top 40 VBL prospects.
Mazeika returns to Stetson for his sophomore year and will be a player to follow during the 2014 season.
