ORONO, Maine– Series with the University of Miami and Clemson University highlight a competitive non-conference University of Maine baseball schedule, released recently. Following the series with Clemson, Maine plays 15 games in Florida before returning north for the always challenging America East Conference slate.
“The 2014 schedule is set up for us to be challenged early physically and mentally to prepare us for our America East conference games as we come back to the northeast,” said Maine head coach Steve Trimper.
“We have a good group of veteran leaders this season that have played on the big stage before. We look forward to the start of the 2014 season.”
Maine opens the 2014 schedule when it travels to the University of Miami for a three-game series Feb. 14 – 16. First pitch on Friday night will be at 7 PM. After the series with the Hurricanes, the Black Bears travel to Clemson, S.C. for a three-game series with the Tigers Feb. 21 – 23.
Maine then plays 15 additional games in Florida over the following two weeks. Among the opponents for the Black Bears are Iowa, Stetson, Northeastern, Florida Atlantic.
Maine plays Princeton in Annapolis, Md. on March 20, before opening conference play at UMBC on March 22 and 23. The Black Bears play their Mahaney Diamond opener on Saturday, March 29 when Maine hosts America East newcomer UMass Lowell. The Black Bears continue their home stand by hosting UMaine Farmington on April 1, the University of Hartford on April 5 and 6 and then Thomas College on April 8.
Maine travels to UMass Lowell on April 12 and 13, before hosting Colby on April 15. The Black Bears hit the road once again when they travel to Binghamton April 19 and 20 and Holy Cross April 22.
The Black Bears return home to host NYIT for a non-conference series April 25 – 27. Maine then hits the road again for a non-conference game at Manhattan, before facing Stony Brook May 3 and 4. Maine closes the regular season hosting series with Albany on May 10 and 11, Boston College on May 13 and UMBC May 16 and 17.
The America East Tournament will be held May 22 through 25, with NCAA Regionals taking place May 30 through June 1.
