Presbyterian releases 2014 Schedule

PresbyterianCollege_thumb.jpgCLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team will play 23 games at the PC Baseball Complex and challenge some of the region’s top programs, head coach Elton Pollock has announced in releasing the season schedule.

“Our 2014 baseball schedule promises to be more challenging than any other schedule we’ve ever played,” said Pollock. “That being said, my kids are driven and up for the challenges ahead. We just completed one of the most intense and competitive fall sessions in our program’s history. Our players were challenged mentally and physically both on and off the field. My coaches and I are looking forward to watching our players compete against some of the best competition in the country in pursuit of the Big South Conference Championship.”

The Blue Hose will test themselves against powerhouse teams like South Carolina, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and UCF as well as host Atlantic Coast Conference heavyweight Pitt when the Panthers visit Laurens County.

PC will play 27 Big South Conference games this season and aims to qualify as one of eight teams that will play in the Big South Conference Baseball Championship at Winthrop after the regular season.

The 2014 campaign begins at home for the first time since 2011 as the Blue Hose host Savannah State in a three-game series. The two teams square off in a doubleheader to start the season on Saturday, February 15.

Following the opening weekend series, PC plays at 2013 Super Regional squad South Carolina on Tuesday, February 18 before returning home to host NC Central on Wednesday, February 19.

The Blue Hose play three straight games in Spartanburg the weekend of Friday, February 21, beginning at USC Upstate. Saturday sees the Blue Hose host Fordham at USC Upstate before rounding out the weekend at Wofford on Sunday.

PC then makes its annual visit to Clemson on Tuesday, February 25.

An eight-game road swing awaits the Blue Hose next as the program travels to Auburn for the first time in the modern era for a three-game set on Friday, February 28. PC then travels to Port Charlotte, Fla., for a five game-tournament that begins on Wednesday, March 5. The team will battle Northeastern, Lehigh and South Dakota State before wrapping up the tournament with a doubleheader against Northeastern and Maine on Saturday, March 8.

PC returns home for a five-game homestand beginning with two midweek games against Pitt on Tuesday, March 11 and Wednesday, March 12.

Big South Conference play begins on Friday, March 14, when the UNC Asheville Bulldogs roll into town for a three-game weekend series.

The Bleu Hose hit the road for the next six games, playing at Georgia (Tuesday, March 18), Wofford (Wednesday, March 19), VMI (Friday, March 21-Sunday, March 23) and Furman (Tuesday, March 25).

Big South play resumes on Friday, April 4 with a three-game series at Campbell followed by a midweek game on Tuesday, April 8 at Western Carolina.

Winthrop visits Laurens County on Friday, April 11 for another Big South Conference weekend series and Furman comes to town next on Tuesday, April 15. The team then hits the road to play at Coastal Carolina for the Easter weekend on Thursday, April 17.

PC hosts Wofford on Wednesday, April 23, in its third and final game against the Terriers. The Blue Hose then travel to Longwood for a Big South set on Friday, April 25.

The 2014 season enters the home stretch after final exams when PC hosts Charleston Southern in a league series on Friday, May 2. The final four road games await next beginning on Tuesday, May 6 at NC Central. PC then heads to Orlando, Fla., for a weekend series at Central Florida for the weekend of Friday, May 9.

The regular season ends with a home Big South series on Thursday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17.

The Big South Conference Baseball Championship will be held at Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., beginning on Tuesday, May 20.
