JoeRaccuiaRadfordRADFORD, Va. – Radford head baseball coach Joe Raccuia announced Wednesday the release of his team’s 2014 schedule. The schedule is highlighted by non-conference home matchups with North Carolina State and Virginia Tech, both of which hosted NCAA Regionals last season.

“Every year we truly believe we put a great schedule together and this year is no exception. We continue to challenge ourselves out of conference with high RPI games, NCAA tournament teams, and the always tough Big South Conference schedule. This team has the ability to perform against this schedule, and we are eager to open up the 2014 season,” Raccuia said.

In all, the Highlanders are scheduled to play seven games against five teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), also including Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, and Virginia.

Radford begins the season on Valentine’s Day with a matchup against Virginia Commonwealth at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta. The Highlanders also face Old Dominion along with the host Yellow Jackets in the three-day event to open the season.

The next weekend features another high-profile invitational at Wake Forest. The Highlanders square off against Missouri, Cincinnati, and the Demon Deacons.

Radford returns to the New River Valley on Feb. 25 for a road game at Virginia Tech.

The home opener at RU Baseball Stadium, a doubleheader vs. Siena, is scheduled for March 1 as the first two games of the three-game set. The Highlanders begin home play with an eight-game homestand which includes Siena, Temple, and Bryant.

RU is on the road for its first six Big South Conference games. The Highlanders play back-to-back series away from Radford vs. VMI (March 14-16) and at Charleston Southern (March 21-23).

The home Big South slate begins March 28 with a three-game series vs. Longwood.

Virginia Tech visits RU on April 29, and North Carolina State rolls into Radford on May 13.

The Big South Conference Tournament is rounds out the current schedule from May 20-24 at a site yet to be determined.
