We continue the countdown today with number 70, UC Santa Barbara RHP Dylan Hecht. In his freshman campaign with the Gaucho’s, Hecht worked his way through a very talented bullpen to become the go to guy in the ninth. In 34.1 innings, the right-hander finished the season with a 1.83 ERA and nine saves. His seven saves in conference play led the Big West and his 15 appearances were good for second. The 6’1” freshman also led the Gaucho’s staff with hits/9 innings (4.98), K’s/9 innings (11.8) and WHIP (.917). He was named a 2013 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and was chosen to the All-Big West second team.
The Pleasanton, CA native attended Foothill High School where he earned two letters on the mound for the Falcons. During his career, Hecht earned two All-East Bay Athletic League honors and led the EBAL in strikeouts as a senior. He went 5-3 with a 1.66 ERA in 13 appearances with 85 strikeouts in 59 innings.
During the 2013 summer, Hecht spent the season as a member of the Corvallis Knights in the very competitive West Coast League. The right-hander appeared in 8 games for the Knights, compiling only 14.2 IP while striking out an impressive 18 batters in the process. His 3.06 ERA was good for middle of the pack amongst the Knights staff and his performance on the mound got him named as one of the top 10 prospects in the West Coast League. This honor was shared with other notable players such as Cody Poteet, Blake Drake and Alex Real.
Hecht returns to the Gaucho’s staff for his sophomore season and will look to make an even bigger impact out of the bullpen during the 2014 season.
