JimGilliganLamar.jpgBEAUMONT – It will be another busy season at Vincent-Beck Stadium next year as the Lamar baseball team released its 2014 schedule, which features 33 games to be played in Beaumont, including the first 13 of the season.

Lamar, which is coming off a 39-win 2013 season, is slated to begin play with the annual Cardinal Classic. UIC and Marist will make the trek to Beaumont for the tournament, which will begin on February 14 and continue over the ensuing two days. Each team will play the other two twice.

Following the tournament, the Cardinals will square-off against Texas Southern on February 19 before bringing in LIU Brooklyn for a four-game set two days later. The Red and White will close out the homestand with a midweek encounter with another SWAC school in Prairie View A&M on February 25 and a three-game series with UTPA the following weekend.

On March 5, LU will set out for Waco to take on Big XII foe Baylor before coming back to Vincent-Beck once again, this time for a four-game series with Harvard.

The Cards will head to Southeastern Louisiana on March 14 for the first conference series of the year before meeting up with Houston in Houston on March 18. LU will return to the Space City the following week to take on Rice at Reckling Park. Two conference home series will bookend the meeting with the Owls as the Cards will start a series with Nicholls on March 21 and rival McNeese State on March 28.

There will be four new members of the Southland Conference this baseball season, and the Cards are scheduled to take on the first on April 4 at Abilene Christian. Following the yearly trip to LSU on April 8, LU will welcome in a second on April 11 as New Orleans is set to come to town.

Rice will make its way to Beaumont on April 15 to offer a brief reprieve from the conference slate, and match-ups between long-time foes Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin will take place over the next two weekends.

After a two-game set at UTSA to close out April, the Cards will open up May with a home series vs. new Southland member Houston Baptist before wrapping up the season with trips to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Oral Roberts.

The Southland Tournament is slated to begin on May 21 on the campus of Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark.
