NorthridgeLogo_thumb.jpgNORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Under first-year head coach Greg Moore, the Cal State Northridge Matadors will face a difficult slate of opponents in 2014, including six NCAA Tournament participants and defending national champion UCLA. Of the 56 games on the schedule, 32 will be played against non-conference opponents split evenly between the road and Matador Field.

Northridge will open the 2014 campaign by taking a cross-country trip to Daytona Beach, Fla., for a series at Bethune-Cookman on Valentine’s Day.

The 2014 home opener is slated for Friday, Feb. 21, when Seattle University comes to town for a four-game series that features a doubleheader on February 22. Among opponents making their way to the San Fernando Valley next year include Washington State (February 27 – March 2), West Virginia (March 13-15) and Stony Brook (March 19). The Matadors will also renew a rivalry with Pepperdine (March 25 on the road, April 15 at home) and battle familiar programs in CSU Bakersfield, San Diego State and Loyola Marymount.

In addition to the season-opening series at Bethune-Cookman, the Matadors will make two road trips to Texas to face a pair of strong programs. Cal State Northridge will head to Huntsville to face NCAA participant Sam Houston State (Mach 7-9) and will take a break from conference play in April to visit TCU in Fort Worth (April 25-27)

The Big West Conference opening series will take place from March 28-30 when Northridge hosts Long Beach State at Matador Field. The Matadors will also have home series in conference play against Hawai’i, UC Davis and Cal Poly. Road series include tests at UC Riverside, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and a season-ending clash at defending Big West champion Cal State Fullerton.
