STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford baseball schedule was released Tuesday, featuring some of the top traditional powers in college baseball. The 54-game slate, which begins Feb. 14, includes 27 contests at Sunken Diamond.
The Cardinal’s non-conference schedule is highlighted by visits from Rice (Feb. 14-16) and Kansas (March 7-9) and trips to Vanderbilt (Feb. 28-March 2) and Texas (Feb. 21-24). The series against the Owls is the home opener at Sunken Diamond, where the Cardinal went 18-13 in 2013. The two teams faced each other in the first three games of the season last year with Rice taking two out of three.
Stanford travels to Austin, Texas, after the Longhorns made the trek to The Farm last season. The Cardinal swept the 2013 series, including a memorable 14-strikeout, complete-game effort from Mark Appel in the series’ first game.
Vanderbilt last came to Sunken Diamond in 2012 and the Cardinal has not seen Kansas since 2007.
Stanford, which will be led by Clark & Elizabeth Nelson Director of Baseball Mark Marquess in his 38th season, also plays San Jose State (Feb. 18, May 13), USF (Feb. 25), UC Davis (April 8), St. Mary’s (March 25, April 15), Santa Clara (April 22,May 6) and Pacific (April 29, May 20) in single games throughout the year.
Stanford’s schedule looks to be challenging, once again, as all four non-conference opponents that the Cardinal will face in three-game sets finished over .500 and combined to go 159-117 (.576) last season. Both Rice and Vanderbilt, the nation’s No. 2 overall seed, advanced to the NCAA Super Regional before falling in 2013.
The Pac-12 season begins March 21 when USC comes to town. The Cardinal also hosts Oregon (March 28-30), Arizona State (April 17-19), Cal (April 25-27) and Washington State (May 16-18) during the tough conference calendar.
Television schedules, including that of the Pac-12 Networks, will be announced at a later date.
