Ball State releases 2014 Schedule

MattJonsenBallStateBall State’s baseball team has announced its 2014 schedule, which features four teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Cardinals open the season Feb. 14-15 with three games in Spartanburg, S.C., and will play NCAA teams Bowling Green, Indiana, Liberty and Valparaiso.

Ball State, under the direction of head coach Rich Maloney, will compete in the Snow Bird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla., Feb. 21-23 and face Iowa, Kansas and Northwestern.

Other non-conference opponents include Campbell, which posted 49 wins a year ago, Kentucky, Rider, IPFW, Dayton and Wofford.

The Cardinals open the Mid-American Conference season March 21-23 with a three-game home series vs. Bowling Green.

Ball State ended the 2013 season with a 31-24 overall record and managed a 15-12 MAC mark. The Cardinals finished second in the MAC West Division and advanced to the MAC Tournament Championship Game.

Sophomore pitcher Scott Baker was named the MAC Pitcher of the Year, while Billy Wellman was named to the All-MAC First Team and Sean Godfrey to the all-league second team. Baker ranked fifth in the nation in victories and was named the MAC Pitcher of the Week five times in 2013.
