STILLWATER, Okla. – Five NCAA Tournament teams from last season highlight Oklahoma State’s 2014 baseball schedule, which was released today and includes 29 home games for the Cowboys at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Next year’s OSU schedule also includes five games against Bedlam-rival Oklahoma. The Cowboys and Sooners will meet in non-conference games in Norman (April 1) and Stillwater (April 15), then will close out the regular season with The Bedlam Series May 15-17. This year’s Bedlam Series will open with a game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City before concluding with the final two games in Tulsa at ONEOK Field.
“We’re excited about our schedule — there’s some great challenges on it and some opportunities for our home fan base to see some great clubs come through Stillwater,” said OSU head coach Josh Holliday, who is entering his second season with the Cowboys. “We’ve got five games with Oklahoma that includes a home-and-home to bring the energy back to the campuses. We’ve got a powerhouse series with Arizona State late in the year, which is a huge RPI boost for our schedule, as well as a trip to Stillwater by San Diego, a perennial top 25 team from the west coast. And we’ve got a trip to Arizona for a very competitive tournament in Surprise and an opening tournament down in Dallas where hopefully a lot of our Oklahoma State alums can catch a first glimpse of us.
“It’s a strong schedule and definitely a step up from where we’ve been as we continue and try to build a top 10 schedule to prepare ourselves for postseason play.”
OSU opens the 2014 season at the UTA/Hilton Invitational hosted by Texas-Arlington. The Cowboys will face Incarnate Word in their season opener on Feb. 14 before taking on Stephen F. Austin and UTA.
The Cowboys will open the home portion of their schedule on Feb. 18 when they welcome Alcorn State to Allie P. Reynolds Stadium for a two-game midweek series.
Among the Cowboys’ non-conference highlights are three-game home series against San Diego (March 7-9) and Arizona State (May 2-4). OSU will also be part of the Spring Training Classic in Surprise, Ariz., Feb. 27-March 2, where Holliday’s club will take on Gonzaga, Santa Clara, Manhattan and Arizona State.
The Cowboys will open Big 12 Conference play March 21 against Baylor in Waco, Teas. OSU’s first conference home series will be the following weekend when TCU comes to town.
In Big 12 Conference action, OSU will also host Texas Tech and Kansas, while having road series at West Virginia, Texas and Kansas State.
The Big 12 Baseball Championship will be held at OKC’s AT&T Bricktown Ballpark May 21-25, while NCAA Regionals get underway on May 30. The College World Series begins play on June 14 in Omaha, Neb.
