CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois baseball team has released its schedule for the 2014 season.
Southern will open the season with eight straight road games beginning on Friday, Feb. 14 with a three-game series at Western Kentucky. The following weekend the Salukis will head to Thibodaux, La. to play in a tournament hosted by Nicholls State.
SIU will open the home portion of its schedule at newly renovated Abe Martin Field at Richard “Itchy” Jones Stadium with a three-game series against Northern Illinois beginning Friday, Feb. 28.
Other highlights of the non-conference schedule include consecutive weekend series against 2013 NCAA Tournament teams when the Salukis visit South Alabama March 7-9 and host Illinois on March 14-16. The Dawgs will also host Purdue for a three-game series March 21-23 and meet up with Missouri in O’Fallon, Mo. on April 1.
The Missouri Valley Conference season will begin with a road series at Missouri State March 28-30. SIU will be at home for three conference series in its updated facility, hosting Bradley (April 4-6), Indiana State (April 11-13) and Evansville (May 2-4). In addition to the Missouri State series, the Salukis will be on the road in conference against Wichita State (April 18-20), Illinois State (April 25-27) and new conference member Dallas Baptist (May 15-17).
Indiana State will host the five-day 2014 MVC Tournament at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute, Ind. beginning Tuesday, May 20.
The Salukis’ schedule currently stands at 55 games, not including the conference tournament. There is the possibility to add one or two more games to the regular season schedule. Start times for the upcoming season’s games are yet to be determined.
