Northwoods League continues to Grow

NorthwoodsLeagueThe Northwoods League was founded in 1994 by Dick Radatz Jr. the son of former major leaguer Dick Radatz. The league has flourished in its 19 years of existence. The league has a much different structure when compared to the Cape Cod Baseball League as they serve alcohol, charge admission, and act as a minor league type league in terms of marketing. Interesting enough, Radatz blasted the Cape League’s structure in a Boston Globe article.

Radatz believes that his league is better run than the Cape Cod Baseball League as it prepares players for the minor league lifestyle of long bus rides and a five man rotation while playing in former minor league facilities in the upper midwest.

Radatz does play some hardball though against the Cape Cod League by having players that reneged on a Northwoods contract served with papers in the Cape League which was famously done to Brad Furniss who was warming up with Wareham in the Cape League.
