UCLA 6, San Diego 0
LOS ANGELES — Sophomore starter Grant Watson pitched his best game of the season, combining with two relievers for a one-hit shutout of San Diego in the championship game of the Los Angeles Regional at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Watson went seven innings, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out five to pick up his eighth win of the season.
San Diego decided to risk starting closer Max Homick after he pitched 1 1/3 innings in the early game. Homick waited one hour and seven minutes in between the final pitch of the 2 p.m. game and his first pitch to UCLA leadoff hitter Brian Carroll. The rust was evident. The Bruins (42-17) knocked Homick for five hits and four runs in only a third of an inning before San Diego went to the bullpen.
Michael Wagner pitched 7 2/3 innings of two-run relief for the Toreros, but the first inning damage was too much to overcome with Watson on point.
Eric Filia had two hits and scored three runs while Pat Valaika and Regional Most Outstanding Player Pat Gallagher each had two RBI.
The Toreros finish the season 37-25 while UCLA advances to the Super Regionals where it will face Cal State Fullerton.

San Diego 8, Cal Poly 5
LOS ANGELES — The San Diego Toreros advanced to the championship game of the Los Angeles Regional earlier in the day by winning their second straight elimination game, knocking off Cal Poly, 8-5.
The Toreros (37-24) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a Connor Joe RBI single and took a 3-1 lead in the third inning when Austin Green delivered a two-out single with the bases loaded.
Cal Poly (41-18) trimmed the lead in the fourth and Jordan Ellis tied the game in the top of the fifth with a bloop single to right field. But San Diego responded with a run on a passed ball in the bottom half of the inning and then opened the game up with a big sixth inning. The Toreros scored four runs despite only one hit — and that hit, a two-run single, came from the pitcher, Troy Conyers, who had only 21 at bats this season.
Conyers also collected the win, pitching 2 2/3 innings of relief before handing the ball over to Trevor Bayless and Max Homick, who closed out the final 2 2/3 innings.
The Austins led San Diego’s offensive attack. Austin Bailey finished 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run and an RBI. Austin Green was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Cal Poly’s most successful season ended despite Jimmy Allen continuing his hot hitting. Allen went 3-for-4 with two RBI to finish the weekend 8-for-13 with five RBI and earn the third base spot on the Los Angeles All-Regional Team over Tyler France, Kris Bryant and Kevin Kramer.
