TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Brandon Brown drew a bases-loaded, walk-off walk in the ninth to cap a four-run inning as Troy defeated Alabama 9-8 in an elimination game at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional on Sunday.
No. 26 Troy (42-19) moves on to face No.9 Florida State on Sunday at 4 p.m. (CDT) in the Tallahassee Regional Championship at Dick Howser Stadium. The Trojans (42-19) will have to defeat the Seminoles (46-15) twice to advance to next week’s Super Regional.
“That was a great example of who we are and what we’ve been all year,” Troy assistant coach Mark Smartt said. “To get four in the ninth in this environment was a special thing. I couldn’t be prouder of all our players and it took everybody. We had pitchers running. We had guys getting big hits. I give Brandon Brown a lot of credit for taking the walk. That’s hard to do but it showed a lot of spirit, a lot of character, a lot of heart. The words ‘all in’ really do mean that and I couldn’t be prouder of our team.”
