2013 Raleigh NCAA Regional Day 2 Recap

RALEIGH, N.C. – Bobby Wahl did what he did all year on Saturday, keeping his opponent in check until the offense clicked as No. 23 Ole Miss (38-23) defeated Binghamton (30-25) by a score of 8-4 on Saturday to stay alive in NCAA Tournament play at N.C. State.

With the win, Wahl (10-0) became the first 10-win pitcher for the Rebels in a season since Cody Satterwhite in the 2006 season. Wahl worked 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Jake Lambert (7-3) took the loss for the Bearcats, allowing four runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts and no walks through 6.1 innings of work.

NC State 1 William and Mary 0

RALEIGH, N.C. – Starting pitcher Carlos Rodon spun a complete-game, two-hit shutout while striking out 10 as the top-seeded NC State baseball team defeated William & Mary, 1-0, Saturday evening at Doak Field at Dail Park.

NC State (46-14) set a single-season wins record under the direction of head coach Elliott Avent with victory No. 46 on Saturday. Now in his 17th season at the helm of the Wolfpack, his previous best season was 45-18 in 2003.

Rodon’s 10th strikeout of the evening tied him with Mike Caldwell for second place on NC State’s all-time strikeouts list with 296. He has struck out at least eight batters in 15 of his 16 starts this season and reached double-digit strikeouts for the third-consecutive start and the seventh time in his last 10 starts. Rodon has also allowed just three hits and struck out 33 batters in his last 23 innings pitched.
