San Diego 6, San Diego State 3
LOS ANGELES — Dylan Covey put together his best start of the season to lead San Diego past rival San Diego State, 6-3, in an elimination game in the Los Angeles Regional Saturday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
San Diego fell behind 2-0, but rallied for five runs in the fifth inning with redshirt senior Austin Green striking the big blow. After San Diego State starter Michael Cederoth walked in a run, Philip Walby entered to pitch. Green greeted him with a two-run liner through the left side.
An outfield error allowed the runners to advance. Andrew Daniel hit a sacrifice fly. Green also tagged and headed for third base. An errant relay throw allowed him to score as well.
Covey picked up his fifth win, throwing seven innings for the first time this year. He pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing only four hits. Troy Conyers entered and recorded the final four outs for his first collegiate save.

UCLA 6, Cal Poly 4
LOS ANGELES — Cal Poly starter Matt Imhof carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and the Mustangs (40-18) held a 4-0 lead, but everything quickly unraveled as UCLA struck for four runs, including three on a two-out bases-clearing fly ball that the right fielder lost in the lights.
The Bruins (41-17) added two more runs in the next inning on a slow chopper to shortstop and a bases-loaded walk. From there the bullpen combination of James Kaprielian and David Berg shut things down as UCLA advanced to the championship round of the Los Angeles Regional with a 6-4 win Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
Cal Poly jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first four inning as it feasted on Nick Vander Tuig’s offerings. In the first inning, after perfect hit-and-run execution, Nick Torres hit a sacrifice fly and Jimmy Allen knocked an RBI double. The Mustangs added runs in the third and fourth innings on RBI singles from David Armendariz and Torres, but Cal Poly also stranded six runners in the first three innings, including four in scoring position.
Vander Tuig eventually settled in, retiring six of the final seven batters he faced. Kaprielian and Berg combined for three hitless innings and six strikeouts. Vander Tuig improved to 11-4 while Berg picked up his 20th save.
Eric Filia had two hits, a run and an RBI while Kevin Williams was credited with a three-run triple on the ball that got lost in the lights.
