Towson 7 FAU 2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Senior righthander Mike Volpe earned his tenth victory of the season and senior catcher Andrew Parker blasted a monstrous three-run homer as the Tigers (30-28) continued their magical post-season with a 7-2 victory over No. 23 Florida Atlantic (39-21) in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament at Boshamer Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Volpe, who pitched the Tigers into the NCAA Tournament last Saturday with a 5-2 win over William & Mary in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game, pitched seven very strong innings as the Tigers ended Florida Atlantic’s 11-game winning streak.

UNC 6 Canisius 3

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) – Chaz Frank had three hits and Brian Holberton drove in two runs to help North Carolina beat Canisius 6-3 on Friday night in the Chapel Hill Regional.

Holberton’s two run-single provided an early lead for the Tar Heels (53-8), the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament. Canisius (42-16) trailed 4-3 in the eighth before UNC added two runs on Mike Zolk’s sacrifice fly and Frank’s single to stay in control.

The Tar Heels improved to 27-5 as an NCAA host, though this is the first time UNC has been the No. 1 overall seed.
