2013 Blacksburg NCAA Regional Day 1 Recap

BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Sooners were down but not out, rallying to defeat Coastal Carolina, 7-3, in their NCAA Regional opener at English Field Friday.

Oklahoma (41-19) trailed 3-0 after two innings, but scored seven unanswered runs and shut down the Chanticleer offense with a complete-game from Jonathan Gray (10-2).

No. 2 seed Oklahoma won its sixth straight game and advanced to the winner’s side of the Blacksburg Regional bracket, where they will face No. 4 seed Connecticut, 5-2 victors over host Virginia Tech, Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Central.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Sophomore righty Carson Cross scattered six hits over 6.1 innings and allowed one run to lead the University of Connecticut baseball team to its sixth NCAA Tournament victory since 2010, a 5-2 win at No. 16 Virginia Tech, on Friday afternoon in front of 3,566 at English Field in Blacksburg, Va.

With the win, the Huskies advance into the winners bracket of the Blacksburg Regional and will square-off against No. 2 seed Oklahoma on Saturday evening. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. EDT at English Field and the contest will be preceded by an elimination game pitting the Hokies against Coastal Carolina.
