Lowell, MA— (1)Maine eliminated (4)Stony Brook with a 3-1 win in game five of the America East Conference tournament. On the mound for the Black Bears was Mike Connolly who gave up eight hits for one run through a complete nine innings. Strong hitters for Maine include; Michael Fransoso (2 for 4) picking up two RBIs and scoring once, Sam Balzano (1 for 4) scoring once, and Eric White (3 for 4) accounted for all six of Maine’s hits.
Daniel Zamora started on the hill for Stony Brook giving up five hits for three runs through eight innings while also setting a career high for strikeouts with 13. Tim Knesnik relieved Zamora in the ninth giving up one hit for no runs to end the game for the Seawolves. Brett Tenuto (2 for 4) picked up an RBI while Johnny Caputo (2 for 4) scored the Seawolves’ only run.
With this win Maine moves onto the championship match-up against (2)Binghamton in game six on day three, although in order for Maine to win the tournament they would have to win two games in a row against Binghamton because the Bear Cats have yet to lose a game in the tournament.
