Lowell, MA– (1)Maine defeated (4)Stony Brook 7-0 in game 1 of the the America East championship. Tommy Lawrence was on the hill for the Black Bears and pitched a complete game shut-out giving up only two hits throughout the game. Eric White (2 for 4) was great for Maine scoring twice and picking up four RBIs to go along with his homerun in the fifth inning. Other standouts include Alex Calbick (2 for 3) who picked up one RBI and scored twice, Troy Black (2 for 4) scored twice, Michael Fransoso (2 for 4) scored once, and Scott Heath (2 for 2) who picked up two RBIs. Maine scored all of their runs in the first and fifth innings.
Frankie Vanderka started on the mound for the Seawolves and gave up ten hits, for seven runs through four and one third innings of play before being relieved by Tyler Honahan who gave up three hits for no runs in his inning and two thirds of play. Josh Barry finished the last two innings for Stony Brook and only gave up one hit for no runs. Hits were hard to come by for the Seawolves with the only two hits of the game coming from Cole Peragine (1 for 3), and Brett Tenuto (1 for 3).
With this win the Black Bears are set to face the winner of the second game on day one ((2)Binghamton vs. (3)Albany) in game two on day two and the Seawolves are set to face the loser of game two in game one on day two.
