College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!
Number 5 on our Top 100 Countdown is North Carolina’s Colin Moran. The 6’3 third baseman from Rye, New York led the Cape Cod League during the summer of 2012 with 42 RBI.
As a freshman, Moran had a tremendous collegiate debut. In his 67 appearances, Moran hit .335 with 46 runs and 71 RBI. His success earned him a variety of awards including ACC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-ACC, Freshman All American Honors and Freshman of the Year honors.
As a sophomore, his success continued as Moran batted .365. His batting average, in addition to his slugging and on base percentages led the Tar Heels. Moran spent the summer of 2012 playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League, where he led the league in RBI.
From a scouting perspective, Moran is one of the best college bats in the 2013 draft class. With a swing that has strong, easy mechanics in combination with solid power and good composure at the plate, Moran is projected to go in the first round in nearly every scouting report and mock draft. With his excellent past performances and the consistency he continues to demonstrate, Moran is one of the top players to watch for in 2013.
