Bob Whalen releases 2011 Schedule

HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth baseball head coach Bob Whalen announced the hiring of Evan Wells to his coaching staff for the 2012-13 year. Wells joined the staff this fall after stints at the University of Washington and, most recently, Creighton University.

Wells spent just a short time with Creighton before taking the position at Dartmouth, but had a full season with the Huskies in 2011-12 under head coach Lindsay Meggs as a student manager. Among his duties at Washington were assisting with the planning of all camps, fulfilling administrative duties in the recruiting process, throwing batting practice when needed and helping in drills with the positional players.

For two years, Wells served as an assistant coach with Division III Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash. Acting as the infield and hitting coach, Wells manned the first-base coach’s box during the 2010 season before moving over to coach third base in 2011. He assisted with all aspects of recruiting and was the coordinator for the Pirates’ winter camp.

Wells graduated summa cum laude from Gonzaga University in 2009 with a degree in journalism. The Bulldogs’ starting second baseman and lead-off hitter for three seasons (2007-09), Wells finished his career with a .310 batting average and an on-base percentage of .439 in nearly 800 plate appearances. As a senior he helped Gonzaga reach the NCAA Regionals, where the Bulldogs won their first game before being eliminated.

In addition, Wells has worked at EnFuego Sports as the 18U head coach in 2011 and the 16U Futures team this past year. In the summer of 2010, he was an assistant coach for a Kennewick Senior Legion team that went 43-18 and finished among the top four in the state tournament.
