ROCHESTER, Mich. — Games against teams from the ACC, Big XII and Big Ten, as well as a reformatted Summit League schedule highlight the 2013 Oakland baseball schedule, which was released on Friday by head coach John Musachio. The Golden Grizzlies host the 2013 Summit League Baseball Championship.
Oakland will open the season at Maryland (Feb. 22-24) before traveling to Manhattan, Kan. to play Kansas State (Mar. 1-3). OU will play two teams from the Big Ten with both Michigan State (Mar. 22-24) and Illinois (Mar. 29-31) on the schedule.
The Golden Grizzlies will face the defending Atlantic 10 champions, Dayton, over a weekend that includes a pair of neutral-site games against Buffalo (Mar. 15-17). OU also faces Ohio and Central Michigan from the Mid-American Conference during non-league play.
Oakland’s first home game at the newly renovated OU Baseball Field is against Olivet on Apr. 3 at 3 p.m. The Black and Gold have 18 home games scheduled in addition to hosting the 2013 Summit League Baseball Championship on May 23-25.
The top four teams in the league standings qualify for The Summit League Championship. This season teams will play six games against league opponents. In addition to the traditional four-game Summit League weekend series, teams will now play a doubleheader to allow both teams to host at least two home games in the series.
Oakland tied school records for best finish in both regular season and tournament play last season, earning Musachio Summit League Coach of the Year honors.
