DartmouthCelebrationHANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth baseball head coach Bob Whalen announced the Big Green’s 2013 schedule today, featuring a season-opening trip to a tournament hosted by the University of Minnesota, a 10-game spring trek down to Florida as well as the 20-game Ivy League slate as Dartmouth attempts to win its sixth consecutive Rolfe Division title and third conference crown in the past six seasons.

The campaign opens on March 1 against the Golden Gophers of Minnesota in the first game of the Dairy Queen Classic held at the Metrodome. The Big Green will also square off against Northern Illinois and Utah in the three-day tournament.

After a 13-day break for the winter-quarter finals, Coach Whalen will take his team down to Florida to participate in the Russ-Matt Invitational, featuring numerous teams from around the country. Dartmouth will play 10 games in eight days on the trip, including a three-game series against Bradley and single contests versus Army, UAB, Long Island and North Dakota State, among others.

Upon returning from the Sunshine State, the Big Green will host Siena at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park — where Dartmouth is 55-7 over the last four seasons — in the home opener on March 27. It will be the earliest home game in Dartmouth baseball history.

Defense of Dartmouth’s five straight Rolfe Division titles begins at Penn and Columbia on March 30 and 31, respectively, with doubleheaders starting at noon each day. The following weekend will bring the Big Green’s last two opponents in the Ivy League Championship Series to Hanover. First pitch for the twinbills against Princeton (2011 Ivy champion) and Cornell (2012 champs) will also be at noon.

Brown will play a four-game series against the Big Green at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park on April 13-14, while Dartmouth will travel to Yale for four games the next weekend. The final Ivy opponent will be Harvard with a doubleheader in Hanover on April 27 and two more games the following day in Cambridge, Mass.

Among the other non-conference opponents are Boston College (April 9 in Hanover), Quinnipiac for a home-and-home series (away April 3, home April 24) and Holy Cross (April 10) in Worcester, Mass.
