ST. LOUIS –Saint Louis head baseball coach Darin Hendrickson has announced the Billikens’ schedule for the 2013 season. The 2013 campaign will feature four non-conference teams that played in the 2012 NCAA tournament: Oral Roberts, San Diego, Missouri State and Ole Miss.
The defending Atlantic 10 regular-season champions will open the season in Tulsa, Okla., on Feb. 15-17 against Oral Roberts, the 2012 Summit League champions. The Golden Eagles have won 15 consecutive Mid-Continent/Summit League titles, but this year, ORU will play its inaugural season in the Southland Conference.
To open March, the Billikens will play 10 games in 10 days. To start the busy slate, the Bills head to Port Charlotte, Fla., to take part in the Snowbird Invitational. SLU will play Western Michigan on March 1, Michigan in a doubleheader on March 2 and wrap up the trip with Maine on March 3.
The Billikens will head home on March 5 to play UT Martin in the Saint Louis home opener. The next day, SLU duels North Dakota at the Billiken Sports Center.
After its brief stay at home, Saint Louis travels to San Diego, Calif., to play in the University of San Diego Tournament on March 8-10. The Bills take on Michigan, Holy Cross and San Diego.
The Billikens open conference play on the road in Dayton on March 22-24. Saint Louis and Dayton shared the A-10 regular-season title last season, while Dayton went on to win the conference tournament. Last season, the Bills won two of three games against the Flyers.
Saint Louis will play in-state rival Missouri State on Apr. 23 at the Billiken Sports Center. Last season, the Bills topped the Bears 1-0 in Springfield, Mo. The Bears who were ranked 29th in the nation at the time, eventually went on to play in the NCAA tournament.
On May 1, SLU heads to Oxford, Miss., to play Ole Miss. The Rebels made the 2012 NCAA Tournament on the heels of 35-24 regular-season record. Ole Miss has made the tournament in nine of the past 10 seasons.
The Billikens will wrap up the regular season against conference foe Charlotte on May 17-19 at home. This will be the last meeting between the rivals before the 49ers move to Conference USA next season.
